Golf Course
There will be oral arguments on the pending motions in the golf course litigation on November 16, 2011 at 10:30 am at the Wilmington Court House, 500 North King Street, Wilmington, DE 19801. Argument will be presented to the Superior Court judge assigned to all pending cases. Councilman Sheldon has informed me that the hearing will be open to the public, but the public will not be permitted to comment. None the less, he said that it would be helpful to our position to have the courtroom filled with members of the affected communities.
If you attend, look for the scrolling screen in the lobby that give the courtroom information for the day. If NCC vs. PCRS is not on the screen, ask the guard at the desk behind the metal detectors for appropriate courtroom for 10:30 am argument before Judge Parkins.
Let me know if you plan to attend and would be interested in carpooling.
Bowling Alley/WaWa
To date, no changes in the status of either property.
Linden Hill Elementary
At its September 21 meeting, the Red Clay School Board addressed the issue of overcrowding at in Linden Hill, Brandywine Springs, and North Star Elementary Schools. They recommended closing these schools to choice for next year and not hold choice open house this year. The only exception would be for siblings of current in district students of these schools.
The vote was table to allow for public comment until the next meeting which will be at Brandywine Springs Elementary on Oct 19 @7pm. Leah Davis is Board President LeahDavis@redclay.k12.de.us
LHE currently lists enrollment on its website as 824. A modular building, which houses 6 classrooms and a technical lab, was erected earlier this year at the back corner of the school nearest Pike Creek Blvd .
The new Principal at LHE is Deborah Brady deborahbrady@redclay.k12.de.us In addition to continuing the permits for car riders established last year, she has posted the rules for the drivers on the schools website. In spite of this there are still some who don’t follow the rules. If you observe a significant problem, please let her know.

Dues
For those of you new to the neighborhood, in Delaware, the Department of Transportation does not clear snow from roads within developments. Thus it falls on the civic association to make these arrangements. The State provides some support in the form of partial reimbursement when snows exceed 4”. However they do not reimburse for sand or salt.
After the record winter of 2010, we had $745 in our snow account. In 2011 we had less snow, but colder temperatures resulted in more icing and increased use of salt. As a result we spent more on salt than plowing last year
2011 snow account
Balance 10/10 $745.00
Dues $6,225.00
State $697.88 payment for only qualifying snow on 1/28/11
State $460.51 our portion of FEMA payment to State for winter 2010
Total $8,128.39
Expenses $6,762.50
Balance 9/30/011 $1,365.89
After review of the account, the officers voted to keep snow removal dues at last years level so that we could reasonably expect to cover expenses for 2012. Hopefully, we’ll have a milder winter and can add some reserve for the next bad winter.
The general fund balance is $945.62. These funds pay for the Delmarva bill for the street light near the pump house, copying expenses, advertising for the community yard sale, use of Linden Hill elementary when needed, community social activities- Halloween, Santa, egg hunt, cookout etc., one time expenses such as the no solicitation signs, and membership in the Pike Creek Civic League, Civic League of New Castle County, and Delaware incorporation fees.
In summation, dues for 2012 will be unchanged from last year: $10 for Skyline residents and $60 for the rest of the community.
Attached is a dues statement. Please fill out and return, with your check to LHVCA, to Doug Shaffer New Kent Rd by November 1. Thank you.
